Was dem Buch – und den einzelnen Autorinnen und Autoren des Sammelbandes – besonders am Herzen liegt und weshalb dieses Werk überhaupt entstanden ist, lesen wir gleich auf der ersten Seite der Einführung:

„Feminist parenting, as I have come to think of it, means raising chil­dren outside of the traditional male-female roles, in which the females are disadvantaged and the males are in a privileged position. It means raising girls and boys to challenge the discrimination and exclusion of women when they see it. It means raising kids to grow up wanting to change the status of women in society. It means raising boys to speak out when they hear other boys making sexist remarks, and to see girls as friends and equals. It means raising girls to be free to make their own decisions about sexuality, marriage, and having childien, and it means freeing boys from the pressure to be macho. It means being a feminist yourself. And in its broadest sense, it means raising children to be humanists and environmentalists.“
